Registration for the 2026-27 school year will open February 2026.

South Colonie Central School District provides full-day Kindergarten. Children must be five years old by December 1 of the year they will start school. For example, children who will turn five between December 2, 2025 and December 1, 2026 will be eligible to start kindergarten in September 2026.

How to Register a New Kindergarten Student for the 2025-26 School Year

Kindergarten registration packets are mailed out each year to families of students in the district census database who are eligible to attend kindergarten the next school year.

Once your child is registered for kindergarten, a screening will be scheduled at the school your child will be attending. If you have any questions, contact the District at registration@scolonie.org.

The South Colonie Central School District is dedicated to help ensure our students’ education is not disrupted due to loss of housing, economic hardship or disaster. Students have education rights and can receive supports and services under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Improvements Act of 2001.

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act is a federal law that ensures children and youth experiencing homelessness have the right to enroll and succeed in school. Some examples of temporary housing include:

  • Sharing the housing of others due to loss of housing, economic hardship or other similar reason
  • Living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, camping grounds
  • Living in emergency or transitional shelters
  • Living a in public or private place not designed for sleeping
  • Living in cars, parks, abandoned buildings, bus or train stations, etc.
  • Migratory living in circumstances described above

If you are currently experiencing homelessness or temporary housing, you can contact the district’s McKinney-Vento Liaison, the District Registrar, DeNeen Bogdanowicz at 518-869-3576.

McKinney-Vento Program Intake Form

Students who reside in South Colonie Central School District, but are enrolled in private, parochial or charter schools should register with the school district. Along with the registration form, please provide proof of residency, the child’s birth certificate, and proof of custody, if applicable.
