Rolling into Healthcare: CCHS Students Explore SCCC’s Mobile Lab

A hands-on healthcare classroom rolled up to Colonie Central High School this week. Schenectady County Community College brought their mobile healthcare careers lab to CCHS where students could actually step inside a state-of-the-art trailer to learn from industry-standard tools such as EKG technology, phlebotomy and other allied health professions.
Inside the lab, students received demonstrations from SCCC instructors and practiced the beginning steps of performing an EKG, learning how technicians place leads and monitor heart activity. They also explored additional healthcare pathways supported by the mobile lab, gaining insight into the skills and training required for various medical roles.
"Experiences like this help students connect what they’re learning in the classroom to real opportunities after high school," said Kristin Mesick, CCHS college and career counselor. "It opens their eyes to growing fields they may not have considered and gives them the confidence to explore careers in healthcare."
SCCC has a healthcare mobile lab, in addition to an Advance Manufacturing lab that includes a Motion AI Collaborative Robot, 3D printer, and interactive learning lab panels for hands-on lessons.
