Sand Creek Bids Farewell to Longstanding SRO Tracy Burns

This week the Sand Creek Middle School community came together to honor and celebrate the service of School Resource Officer (SRO) Tracy Burns, who dedicated nearly a decade to supporting, protecting, and uplifting students and staff.
Sand Creek students lined the hallways to surprise Officer Burns on her last day, creating a memorable sendoff for someone who had become an essential part of daily life at the school. The celebration recognized her commitment to building positive relationships, fostering a safe learning environment, and being a trusted presence for so many.
“Officer Burns has been more than just our school resource officer—she has been a mentor, a role model, and a friend to our students and staff throughout the district,” said Sand Creek Middle School Principal Mike Marohn. “Her impact will be felt long after she leaves our building.”
During her time at Sand Creek, Officer Burns consistently went above and beyond the traditional responsibilities of an SRO. She was a steady and empathetic adult for students who needed support, a partner to teachers and administrators, and a champion for building relationships rooted in trust and mutual respect.
Whether stopping in classrooms to check on students, offering words of encouragement in the hallways, or partnering with staff on safety initiatives, Officer Burns approached every moment with kindness and professionalism. Her ability to connect with students made her a beloved figure in the school, someone students knew they could count on not only for safety but for genuine care and guidance.
As Sand Creek Middle School said goodbye, the community expressed its deepest gratitude for her dedication and service. Officer Burns left behind a legacy of compassion, leadership, and connection—one that will continue to inspire students and staff for years to come.
