ENL Boost Camp Empowers Students Through Language and Learning

South Colonie’s ENL Boost Camp is creating a supportive and dynamic summer learning environment for English Language Learners in grades 5 through 8. The program focuses on helping students strengthen their skills in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English, all while engaging in hands-on, interactive projects.
Led by certified educators, students benefit from small group instruction, targeted language development, and creative learning experiences designed to build confidence and foster academic growth. Beyond language acquisition, the camp encourages collaboration, critical thinking, and curiosity in a fun and welcoming setting.
“The ENL Boost Camp gives students a chance to stay connected over the summer while continuing to grow in their proficiency of the English language,” said April Mlambi, certified ENL instructor. “It’s not just about language—it’s about building confidence, forming friendships, and helping students feel empowered to succeed inside and outside the classroom.”
This summer’s camp is centered around the theme of Aquaponics. The District is partnering with the non-profit organization STEM Stewardship Inc. to bring this theme to life. In addition to sharing expertise with students, the nonprofit organization is generously donating aquaponics units for use during the program—giving students a unique, hands-on opportunity to explore science and sustainability while building their language skills.
“We want our students to see themselves as capable, curious learners,” Mlambi added. “This program helps them realize their potential and shows them that learning can be exciting, meaningful, and fun.”
