South Colonie Students Compete at 2026 KidWind Worlds in Madison

South Colonie Central School District students recently traveled to Madison, Wisconsin to take part in the 2026 KidWind Worlds competition, an international renewable energy and engineering challenge that brings together student teams from across the globe.
Although the South Colonie teams did not bring home a trophy this year, the experience offered something just as meaningful. Students spent several days designing, testing, and refining wind turbine models while learning alongside peers from across the United States and countries including Taiwan, Thailand, and Estonia. The event emphasized innovation, teamwork, and real-world problem solving in the field of sustainable energy.
Middle school students from Sand Creek Middle School represented the district with enthusiasm and creativity:
The Waddling Penguins: Douglass Lougee, Kevin Lin, Abram Malik, Mrinmoy Dash
Beaming Godzillas: Nicholas Robilotti, Caden Edick
Swimming Hotdogs: RJ Romand, Avi Kimball
At the high school level, the team known as The Flying Pickles included 9th grade students Jameson Hynes, Kara Stolicky, Lewis White, and Joseph Brunetto.
“Opportunities like KidWind give students a chance to step beyond the classroom and apply what they’ve learned in meaningful, real-world ways,” said a South Colonie STEM teacher. Jim Brown “Watching them collaborate with peers from around the world, solve problems under pressure, and continuously improve their designs is exactly what hands-on learning is all about. We are incredibly proud of how they represented South Colonie Central School District.”
