Colonie High Students Take Part in V-Healthy® Day Focused on Real-Life Wellness

Colonie Central High School hosted V-Healthy® Day, giving students a hands-on look at how nutrition, vascular health, and everyday choices connect to long-term wellness.
Throughout the day, students moved through interactive sessions and activities designed to make health concepts more practical and relatable. From learning how nutrition affects the body to exploring how daily habits influence overall well-being, the focus stayed on helping students connect classroom ideas to real life.
The day also encouraged students to think about prevention and simple choices that support healthier lifestyles over time. Along with the activities, students were introduced to a follow-up scholarship opportunity that includes a nutrition-based project and a student-created PSA video focused on health awareness.
“Students are constantly hearing about healthy choices, but this day lets them actually see and experience what that means,” said Bob Stranahan, health teacher at Colonie Central High School. “When they can connect it to their own lives, it sticks in a way that a lecture alone can’t always do.”
The experience also connected directly to the broader health curriculum taught at Colonie Central High School, particularly in the areas of nutrition, cardiovascular health, decision-making, and disease prevention. Throughout the year, students explore how daily habits, including nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and stress management, can impact long-term wellness. V-Healthy® Day gave students the opportunity to apply those classroom concepts in a hands-on, real-world setting while reinforcing the importance of informed and healthy lifestyle choices.
