South Colonie Advances “Next Generation” Capital Project with Key Facility Upgrade

South Colonie Central School District is continuing to make significant progress on its “Next Generation” 2025 Facilities Improvement Capital Project, with visible upgrades underway across multiple schools and plans taking shape for future district operations. Now advancing through Stages 2A, 2B, and 3, the project represents a comprehensive effort to enhance student experiences, improve accessibility, and modernize facilities districtwide.
“Through each phase of the ‘Next Generation’ Capital Project, we are making thoughtful, strategic investments that directly impact our students’ daily experiences while also planning responsibly for the future,” said Jacqlene McAllister, Assistant Superintendent for Management Services and Strategic Planning. “From modernized learning spaces and enhanced wellness areas to critical infrastructure and transportation improvements, these upgrades reflect our commitment to creating safe, accessible, and innovative environments that support both current needs and long-term growth across the district.”
Enhancements at Lisha Kill and Veeder
Work in Stage 2A is focused on interior improvements at Lisha Kill Middle School, designed to support student wellness and improve daily operations.
The school’s nurse suite has been renovated to provide a more efficient and modern space for student care. Upgrades are also underway in the fitness center and student locker areas, enhancing both functionality and the student experience. In addition, the installation of ADA-compliant toilet rooms ensures accessibility and aligns the building with current standards.

Planning for the Future with a New Transportation Complex
Looking ahead, Stage 3 focuses on the development of a new Transportation and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Complex to support the district’s long-term operational needs.
The new facility will feature a bus garage to support the district’s expanding transportation fleet, along with dedicated workspace for operations and maintenance staff and administrative areas to enhance overall district operations. The plans also include a new boardroom that will serve as a centralized hub for district leadership while doubling as a large group instruction (LGI) space for use across the district.

Looking to the Future
While significant progress is underway, additional improvements are already on the horizon as the district prepares for stages 2C and 4 of the “Next Generation” Capital Project.
Future work will extend to Saddlewood Elementary, where planned upgrades include classroom enhancements, new windows, an updated nurse suite, and entryway improvements, including asphalt upgrades to improve safety and accessibility.
At Roessleville Elementary, anticipated improvements focus on essential infrastructure and student experience, including electrical system upgrades, renovated student restrooms, and new corridor flooring.
Forest Park Elementary is also slated for classroom upgrades designed to support modern instruction and create more flexible, engaging learning environments.
“This project is about more than facilities. It is about creating the kind of environments our students need to learn, grow, and succeed,” said Superintendent David Perry. “We are investing in spaces that reflect the pride of our community and the promise of our future, ensuring every student has access to safe, innovative, and inspiring places to learn.”
Together, these upcoming projects will build on the progress already made, ensuring that every school in the district benefits from thoughtful, strategic investments. As the “Next Generation” Capital Project continues to unfold, South Colonie remains focused on creating spaces that support student success today and well into the future.
