Mental Health & Wellness Fair Focuses on Mind, Body, Pack

With a strong focus whole wellness, South Colonie Central School District hosted a Mental Health and Wellness Fair featuring more than 40 healthcare providers, community groups, first responders, and student groups.
Students attended the fair during the school day and engaged with representatives from each organization. Highmark Health challenged students to perform push-ups or jumping jacks in exchange for free items. Law enforcement tables featured vision impairment goggles, allowing students to experience the difficulty of walking a straight line while impaired.

In addition to daytime activities, there was also a dedicated community session in the evening meant to educate and inform residents from across the region.

The event showcased a diverse array of resources and experiences designed to connect attendees with vital wellness support. A Maria College Virtual Simulator lab gave participants hands-on experience with cutting-edge VR medical technology. Colonie Central High School students who have completed the CCHS EMT Program were on hand to perform blood pressure tests and pupil assessments, a test that can help detect traumatic brain injuries, strokes, or drug effects.

"Events like this remind us that mental health and wellness are community responsibilities," said Jennifer Judge, PsyD, District Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator. "When we invest in our students' and families' wellbeing today, we're building a healthier, more resilient community for tomorrow."
The free event underscored South Colonie's commitment to wellness as a foundational pillar of the district, ensuring that all students and community members have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.
