Veeder Students Get Firsthand Look at Library Construction in Special Lesson

All this year, Veeder Elementary students have been learning alongside the construction of their brand new library. As a result, their teachers found a way to tie the construction of the school’s new library into their lessons, giving students a unique, real world connection to the changes happening at Veeder.

Second grade students had a special opportunity to meet with the library’s architect, asking thoughtful questions and learning how buildings are carefully planned and designed. Students were curious about details like how snow would be managed on the new library’s V-shaped roof. Architect Marcela Gaudin explained that hidden “crickets” in the roof channel snow and water into gutters, helping the building stay safe and dry.
“Experiences like this give students a tangible understanding of how teamwork and creativity come together to create spaces that inspire learning,” said Jacqlene McAllister, Assistant Superintendent for Management Services and Strategic Planning. “Veeder Elementary’s students are lucky to see their library take shape while learning from the professionals who make it possible.”

After learning more about architecture and looking at the plans for the new space, the students took thank you letters, snacks, and drinks to the construction workers bringing the library to life.
