Colonie Central High School Student Selected for Students Inside Albany Program

Junior Elvina Sales from Colonie Central High School has been selected to participate in the Students Inside Albany (SIA) program, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New York State Education Foundation. Sales was chosen by the League of Women Voters of Albany County to represent the area in this statewide leadership opportunity.
The four-day program, taking place May 17–20 in Albany, introduces high school students to the inner workings of New York State government. Sales will join 58 other students from across the state for the 26th annual program, which is designed to help students better understand their role and responsibilities in representative government.
“This is an outstanding opportunity for Elvina to see how government works beyond the classroom,” said Colonie Central High School Principal Bill Behrle. “Programs like Students Inside Albany give students a firsthand look at the legislative process and help them understand the important role they can play as informed and engaged citizens. We are proud to see Elvina represent our school and community through this experience.”
During the program, students will participate in interactive sessions covering topics such as the state budget process, the role of lobbyists in the legislative process, citizens’ rights to access government information, and the role of the media in politics. Participants will also tour the New York State Capitol and spend time shadowing their state senator and assemblymember while observing legislative session activities.
The Students Inside Albany program aims to encourage informed civic participation by giving students a first-hand look at how state government works and the many ways citizens can be involved.
