No Place for Hate Students Learn about Civic Engagement

Members of the No Place for Hate group traveled to Siena University for an educational and empowering experience focused on civic engagement and voting rights. Students learned about the history and impact of the Voting Rights Act through presentations led by speakers, including NAACP leader, Beverly Ivy, and former president and CEO of Price Chopper Supermarkets/Golub Corporation, Neil Golub.

The program challenged students to think critically about the importance of civic participation and the role individuals play in a democratic society.
“The message today was meant to empower students to be engaged,” said club advisor Kristen Zepf. “We want students to understand that they don’t have to wait until they’re older to make a difference.”
In addition to the presentations, students participated in breakout room discussions with peers from other schools. These conversations explored what civic engagement means to young people and how students can become involved in meaningful ways.
