Colonie’s Summer Meal Program Off to a Strong Start

South Colonie Central School District is proud to share the early success of its 2025 Summer Meal Program, which is providing free, nutritious meals to children throughout the community. In just the first two weeks, the district has already served 458 breakfasts and 639 lunches, helping to ensure students have access to healthy food even when school is not in session.
Hosted at Sand Creek Middle School, the program is open to all children 18 years old and younger, with no registration or identification required. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and all meals must be eaten on site, in accordance with program guidelines.
Meals are served Monday through Thursday through August 21, with the following daily schedule:
- Breakfast: 7:15 – 8:15 a.m.
- Lunch: 10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
The program is part of the USDA-funded Summer Food Service Program, which ensures that meals meet federal nutrition standards and include a variety of healthy options such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein, and milk.
“Summer can be a hungry time for children who rely on school meals during the year,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry. “This program ensures that all kids in our community have access to healthy, nourishing food while school is out. We’re proud to be able to offer this support to families in our community.”
South Colonie’s Summer Meal Program is a reflection of the district’s broader commitment to wellness and community support, providing a safe, welcoming environment where families can rely on consistent, high-quality meals.
