Veeder Launches Project 85 to Promote Positive Student Attendance

Veeder Elementary is launching Project 85, a student attendance initiative designed to encourage students to come to school, stay engaged and be ready to learn.
“We are looking to promote 85% of our students being in attendance for 85 days,” said Veeder Principal James Vardaro in a video message to students and families.
If the school reaches this goal, students will earn a celebration at the end of the year. The school wide party could be a pizza party, a dance party, or even Mr. V dressed as a dinosaur handing out candy… maybe.
“By focusing on the positives, we hope to teach kids that great things happen when you come to school,” said Principal James Vardaro. “We want to celebrate our students who show up ready to learn and be part of our Veeder community.”
Along the way, students can also look forward to surprise attendance days. These surprises are designed to keep students motivated and teach them that every day is a day that’s important to go to school.
“When children build the habit of showing up to school every day from the elementary level, they are laying the foundation for their entire future,” said Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Thomas Kachadurian. “By working together as families and educators to make attendance a priority early on, we teach our students that their presence matters, their learning is valuable, and their potential is limitless."
The 85 day countdown starts on Monday, November 2.
