CCHS Hosts Workshop on Integrity and Substance Use Stigma for Over 60 Students

More than 60 Colonie Central High School students gathered in the school library after school today to participate in Integrity in Action, the first installment of a five-part workshop series. Developed in partnership with ICARE (Integrity, Character, Accountability, Respect, and Empathy) and Mission for Marcus, the session focused on addressing substance use disorder as a treatable health condition, emphasizing person-first language, and exploring the role of integrity in everyday relationships.

"This workshop was developed over the past two months with input from students, faculty, and parents Mark and Teresa Kaplan of Mission for Marcus, our ICARE partner for this school year," said Associate Principal Tess McCarthy. "This workshop could not be more timely as we work with our students on the power of words."
In the 45 minute session, participants learned how to identify stigmatizing language, practice respectful communication alternatives, and put integrity into daily action.
“It means a lot to see this many students after school to participate,” added McCarthy. “ They are actively learning how small shifts in our language and mindset can create a far more supportive environment for everyone."
CCHS will continue the series with four upcoming sessions.
