Opening Day Ahead of the 2026-27 School Year

South Colonie Central School District faculty and staff gathered at Colonie Central High School for Opening Day ahead of the 2026-27 school year.

After a recap of summer activities, Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry spoke to faculty and staff about priorities for the upcoming school year, centered on the district's four core pillars: Academics, Wellness, Character, and Community. With the advancement of AI in our world and in our classrooms, Dr. Perry also emphasized embracing the future, but never losing the human element of education.
"Artificial intelligence offers exciting opportunities to assist our educators and streamline learning, but it remains just that—a tool,” said Dr. Perry. “The human element is, and always will be, the most vital part of our students' development. Nothing can take the place of a dedicated teacher who knows, supports, and believes in their students.”
South Colonie students will return to the classroom for the first day of school on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
