"The Lemonade War" Comes to Life in Forest Park Classrooms

Extended School Year (ESY) students in Miss Murray’s and Ms. Alexander’s classrooms brought their summer reading to life at Forest Park Elementary School. A hands-on project inspired by Jacqueline Davies’ graphic novel “The Lemonade War” led to the classes hosting a friendly Lemonade War.

Students operated and managed two competing lemonade stands – one with yellow lemonade and one with pink – transforming classrooms into student-run businesses. This friendly-competition gave students the opportunity to practice customer service skills and work collaboratively as a team.
“Students loved seeing the book come to life,” said Alison Grenier. “It was great to watch them work together, take on different roles and see how much they enjoyed the experience.”
The rest of the ESY students joined in the fun as official taste-testers and judges, sampling lemonade from both stands and voting for the best lemonade.
