Colonie Police Officer Jonathan Kayser is Colonie Central High School’s newest school resource officer. Officer Kayser’s appointment continues South Colonie Central School District and the Colonie Police Department’s partnership to support school safety and strong community connections.

Officer Kayser has been a member of the Colonie Police Department since 2017. Before joining the department, he served for 10 years as a State Corrections Officer, where he assisted with the Youthful Advocacy Program.

“We are thrilled to welcome School Resource Officer Kayser to the Colonie Central High School team,” said Executive Principal William Behrle. “Having a school resource officer on campus is about more than just safety, it’s about building meaningful, positive relationships between our students and local law enforcement.”

During his time with the Colonie Police Department, Officer Kayser created “Comfort Pals,” a program that stocks stuffed animals in patrol cars so officers can provide them to children experiencing frightening or stressful situations.

“Law enforcement is not just about enforcing rules,” said Officer Kayser. “But also about caring for the well-being of the community, especially its youngest members.”

Officer Kayser is also active in the community. He participates in Special Olympics fundraisers and the Mother’s Day Fashion Show at The Beltrone Living Center, and volunteers for his son’s sports teams.

He is stepping into the role at CCHS following the promotion of Officer Ryan Berkery within the Colonie Police Department.

“We are deeply grateful to Officer Berkery for his time and dedication to our school community,” said Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Safe Schools Christopher Robilotti. “We are excited to build on that foundation with Officer Kayser and we look forward to seeing the positive impact he will make at CCHS.”

As school resource officer, Officer Kayser will serve as a trusted presence on campus, helping strengthen relationships among students, staff, and law enforcement. His role reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to school safety through a collaborative partnership with the Colonie Police Department
