This summer, if you're relaxing in an Adirondack chair in the Capital Region, there's a strong chance a Capital Region BOCES student built it. 

The program's handcrafted chairs have become a local favorite, spreading through community word-of-mouth. In the 2025–26 school year alone, students designed and produced over 100 traditional and high-top Adirondack chairs—all sold to customers by the students themselves.

“I like handy work and this is helping me with my goal of building things for a career,” said Luca Wilson, a rising South Colonie senior. 

Carpentry Services represents just one of 29 career-focused programs Capital Region BOCES offers to high school students. These programs span a wide range of industries — from carpentry and engineering to nursing and culinary arts — preparing students for meaningful careers and skilled trades.
