Two Colonie Central High School graduates are among the recipients of this year’s National Grid Electric Worker Scholarship. Adonis Reyes, Class of 2025 and pictured below with South Colonie School Board member Jen Houlihan, and Roman Moran, Class of 2026, are two of this year’s New Scholarship Recipients. 

Awarded to incoming or returning Hudson Valley Community College students, the $3,500-$7,000 scholarship assists students with the cost of tuition, fees, or books as they pursue programs related to the electric field. In addition to the scholarship, National Grid also provides tool kits to the students, employee mentorship opportunities, as well as services through the Capital Region Workforce Development Board. 

"The need for skilled electric line workers has never been greater," said Matt Barnett, National Grid New York Chief of Operations, Electric. "As experienced line workers retire and demand for reliable, resilient energy infrastructure continues to grow, we're seeing an increasing need for the next generation of this essential workforce. Through this scholarship program, we're investing in students who are interested in pursuing rewarding, high-demand careers in the energy industry. Hudson Valley Community College provides outstanding training for these future professionals, and we look forward to seeing many graduates build successful careers.” 

“We could not be prouder of these two outstanding graduates,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry. “Earning this scholarship is a tremendous achievement and a crucial stepping stone into an industry that keeps our world moving.” 

Now in its third year of the scholarship program, National Grid added a Summer Bridge Program that provides incoming students with professional skills development, peer mentoring, technical training, career exploration opportunities, and support as they transition into their academic studies.
