New York State history came alive for South Colonie’s Summer Academy students. Over the course of two weeks in July, student groups from our summer programs explored the museum’s Expedition Dinosaur: Rise of the Mammals exhibit, saw the Cohoes Mastodon, walked through the Mohawk Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Longhouse, and many other spaces. 

The museum’s carousel was a huge hit with the students, who all enjoyed picking out a horse, chariot, or spinning cup to ride. 

"Our main goal in the summer is to keep kids curious and excited to learn," said Summer Academy Principal Richard Thompson. "Trip days like this prove that learning can be just as fun as any other summer activity.”

South Colonie’s Summer Academy program is a way to help our students keep their skills fresh over summer vacation. By combining classroom lessons with hands-on fun like field trips, students are able to stay engaged, build confidence, and keep learning even after the traditional school year ends.
