Mac and Chili Cook-Off Creates Delicious Competition for a Good Cause

Friendly competition was at the heart of this year’s annual Mac and Chili Cook-Off on January 23.

Emceed by News Channel 13’s Tim Drawbridge, attendees sampled a variety of macaroni and cheese and chili entries made by local groups, fire departments, and even our own School Board. A panel of local judges selected by students tasted each entry and awarded the following trophies to the winning dishes:
Judge's Choice:
Chili: Colonie Village Fire Department
Mac and Cheese: South Colonie Transportation Department
VIP Choice:
Chili: Shaker Road Fire Department
Mac and Cheese: West Albany Fire Department
People's Choice:
Chili: Colonie Village Fire Department
Mac and Cheese: South Colonie Transportation Department

Colonie Central High School’s ICARE (Integrity, Community, Accountability, Respect, and Empathy) group hosted the event at the Colonie Village Family Recreation Center as part of their year-long effort to raise funds for the Albany Housing Coalition.
“The Mac and Chili Cook-Off is a great example of how our students turn compassion into action,” said Tess McCarthy, ICARE Advisor and Associate Principal at CCHS. “Every bowl sampled helps support veterans and makes a real difference in our community.”
Proceeds from the Cook-Off, and all ICARE-sponsored events throughout the year, will benefit AHC and its mission to address veteran housing insecurity and support local veterans in need.
