Colonie Alum Honored with SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence

Joshua Slater, Colonie Central High School Class of 2022, was honored with the 2026 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.
This is the highest honor bestowed upon students by the State University of New York (SUNY) system. Students who are given this award have "demonstrated remarkable achievements across multiple areas of their college careers.”
“These outstanding students have distinguished themselves not only through their academic success, but through their leadership, service, and meaningful contributions to the campus community,” said Brittany Morawiec, Dean of Students and Interim Vice President for Student Affairs. “We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved and the example they set for their peers.”
Slater, a Business Administration graduate and current MBA in Technology Management student, completed his undergraduate degree in just three years while also competing as a student-athlete. SUNY leaders say Slater is expected to complete his MBA in one year.
While a student at CCHS, Slater was a standout student and also played volleyball, baseball and golf – he’s continued excelling in those sports as a college athlete.
"We are incredibly proud to see Josh recognized for this prestigious award,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry. “Josh represents the very best of what our school community stands for, and we have no doubt that he will continue to make an impact both on and off the field. Congratulations!"
