This week, the Lisha Kill Middle School community came together to honor and celebrate the service of School Resource Officer (SRO) Officer Becky Ruecker, who has dedicated the past 10 years to supporting, protecting, and uplifting students and staff.

A 20-year veteran of the Colonie Police Department, Officer Ruecker also served in various capacities across our community, including Saddlewood Elementary, Our Saviors, CBA, Loudonville Elementary, Southgate Elementary, Blue Creek Elementary, and Latham Ridge Elementary. Throughout her career, she was known as a friendly, professional presence who built strong, meaningful connections with students of all ages.

Lisha Kill students lined the hallways to surprise Officer Ruecker on her final day, creating a memorable sendoff for someone who had become an essential part of daily life at the school. The celebration recognized her commitment to building positive relationships, fostering a safe learning environment, and being a trusted presence for so many.

"Officer Ruecker has been so much more than a security presence; she has been a mentor, a confidant, and a friendly face for our students every single morning," said Lisha Kill Principal Jill Penn. "Her ability to connect with kids on a personal level while ensuring our school remains a safe place to learn is truly unmatched. We are incredibly grateful for her 10 years of dedication to our Lisha Kill family."

Whether stopping in classrooms to check on students, offering words of encouragement in the hallways, or partnering with staff on safety initiatives, Officer Ruecker approached every moment with kindness and professionalism. Her ability to connect with students made her a beloved figure in the school—someone students knew they could count on not only for safety, but for genuine care and guidance.

As Lisha Kill Middle School says goodbye, the community thanks Officer Ruecker for her years of dedicated service. Her legacy of compassion, leadership, and connection will continue to inspire students and staff.
