South Colonie Collects 850 Items in Annual Drive to Support Boston Children's Hospital

South Colonie Central School District is proud to announce that our buildings collected 850 items for the 10th Annual Bears, Books, and Blankets drive.
The collection is a districtwide effort to support children receiving care at Boston Children’s Hospital. It was created by the WARrior Will Foundation in memory of William Rogan, the grandson of former South Colonie Board of Education President Ed Sim and the nephew of Transportation Director Brian Sim. The foundation honors William’s legacy by bringing comfort to children facing serious illness and their families.
“It was so amazing to see everyone work so hard for this collection,” said Sim. “Everything that we collected will go to kids who need it most while they’re fighting hard battles at Boston Children’s Hospital.”
Each February, students, faculty, and staff across the district come together to support this initiative. The drive also serves as an opportunity to teach students the importance of compassion and giving back.
At Lisha Kill Middle School, Ms. Corigliano’s class, along with the neighboring Life Skills class, created a song to help build excitement and encourage participation in the drive.
“It makes me feel good,” said Lisha Kill student Kelly McDonnell. “It just helps me know that the other kids are getting comfort from these things that we have been collecting and how they’re just going to make them feel special.”
