Board of Education Election: Two Seats Open in May 2026

Two seats on the South Colonie Central School District Board of Education, each carrying a five-year term, will be up for election this May.
The seats are currently held by Christopher Larrabee and Robert Mesick.
Why Serve on the Board?
The South Colonie Board of Education is composed of nine volunteer members, each elected by district residents to serve five-year terms. Elections are held annually on the third Tuesday in May.
Board service is an important civic responsibility that directly impacts students, families, and the broader community. Members are responsible for:
- Establishing district policies and goals
- Approving budgets and educational programs
- Ensuring district schools remain responsive to community needs
How to Run: Petitions and Nominating Information
Petitions nominating candidates for the office of Board of Education member are now available to qualified South Colonie Central School District residents.
Petition Pickup
- Location: South Colonie Central School District Office (102 Loralee Drive, Albany, NY)
- Hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (by appointment only)
- Scheduling: Contact the District Clerk, Amber Lanigan, at (518) 869-3576, ext. 0442 or by email lanigana@scolonie.org to schedule your pickup.
Candidate Requirements
Prospective candidates should note the following rules for filing:
- A candidate may be nominated for only one seat.
- Petitions must be directed to the District Clerk.
- Petitions must be signed by at least 26 qualified district voters (the requirement is at least 25 signatures or 2% of voters from the previous election, whichever is greater).
- Petitions must state the candidate’s name and residence.
- Petitions must identify the specific vacancy being sought, including the length of the term and the name of the incumbent.
