South Colonie Hosts Bus Rodeo Ahead of National School Bus Safety Week

The morning started with district leadership and community leaders navigating a challenging obstacle course designed to simulate real-life school bus driving conditions, including hazards and distractions that drivers face daily.
“This rodeo helps bring awareness to just how challenging it can be to drive a school bus safely,” said Transportation Director Brian Sim. “It’s a complex job, and it truly takes all of us—drivers, staff, and the community—to keep our students safe on the road.”
After the rodeo, the Sign & Drive event invited community members to hop behind the wheel and explore a career as a South Colonie school bus driver.
“Becoming a South Colonie bus driver is a rewarding career,” added Sim. “You’re part of a close-knit family, and many of our drivers have been with us for more than 30 years. It’s a role where you truly make a difference in students’ lives every day.”
