Board of Education Honors Colonie Graduate for Heroic Actions Overseas

During the October 7 Board of Education meeting, the South Colonie Central School District recognized Colonie Central High School alumnus Johnathon Rudat, Class of 2023 for his heroic actions while living overseas.
As part of the evening’s President’s Spotlight, Board of Education President Stephanie Cogan commended Rudat for his extraordinary bravery and selflessness while intervening to protect a woman in distress.
“While riding a tram in Germany, Johnathon witnessed a woman being harassed,” said Cogan. “Without hesitation, he stepped in to protect her. In doing so, he placed himself directly in harm’s way. He was punched and slashed across the face with a knife, suffering serious injuries that required 40 stitches.”
Despite the trauma of the event, Rudat’s courage and instinct to help others left a lasting impact on all who heard his story. “Johnathon’s bravery and selflessness reflect the very best of the Colonie community,” Cogan continued. “His actions demonstrate the values of character, courage, and compassion that we hope to instill in every student who walks through our doors.”
Superintendent Dr. David Perry, the Board of Education, and members of the South Colonie community joined in extending their gratitude and admiration for Rudat’s actions.
“His story is a reminder that one person’s courage can make an immeasurable difference,” Cogan said.
The South Colonie Central School District extends its heartfelt thanks to Johnathon Rudat for his heroic actions and for serving as a powerful example of the character and compassion that define Colonie graduates around the world.
