Reflecting Forward: Dennis Rymanowski: “Not the perfect student”, now a successful radio personality

Man smiles at the camera, he is sitting in front of a microphone. For most people, graduating high school is something to look forward to. They look forward to finally recovering from having to wake up at 5:00 every morning to catch the school bus, to refraining from eating pizza for lunch every Tuesday, and to no longer having to make sure they wear their sneakers everyday for gym class.

This isn't the case for 1994 alumni Dennis Rymanowski.

“Man, I miss those sausages, eggs and cheese on a bagel,” Dennis Rymanowski says.

Rymanowski says he would go back and relive those high school days for sure. Considering his friend group was together before life took over, he agrees with the saying “ they’re the best times of your life.”

Twenty-seven years after graduating from CCHS, Dennis Rymanowski is now an assistant program director and afternoon personality on local radio station, JAMZ 96.3.

While a student at Colonie Central High School from 1990-1994, Rymanowski played golf for four years, he also played junior varsity baseball. Although Rymanowski didn't play basketball, during his senior year he showed his support for the team by showing up to all the games.

“It was just a great year,” Rymanowski says when asked about his senior year, which he also says was his favorite.

He notes some of the highlights of senior year as having the freedom to drive himself to and from school and socializing with classmates.  He and his group of friends “had a blast going to all the school events,” he says.

Although Ryamanowski claims to have not been the “perfect student” he definitely enjoyed the social aspect that Colonie Central High School held for him.

Rymanowski developed his personality while at Colonie Central High School. His love for making people laugh and his love for music still helps him to this day on how to approach life. His friends, family and coaches taught him to always do his best no matter what it is.

“I've taken this mindset with me as I've gotten older,” he says.

After high school, Rymanowski attended Hudson Valley Community College and landed a full time construction job. He then realized that path wasn't exactly for him. Shortly after that, he went on to attend the New School of Radio and TV.

Even though the New School of Radio has since closed its doors, upon his completion of the program,  he took on an internship with FLY 92.3. Shortly after, he landed a part time job with FLY 92.3 which then led him to becoming the assistant program director of JAMZ 96.3 today.

Rymanowski would like current students to remember that he is very big on loyalty. If you are a part of his inner circle, you definitely know that he will go out of his way in a heartbeat to help those he loves to the best of his ability. Just like how he was taught by friends, family and coaches. This loyalty extends to the Colonie Community.

“ Colonie bond is something that can't be broken and I cherish that, I love being from Colonie and I will always represent the Garnet and Gold in everything I do,” he says.
