2/8: A statement from Superintendent Perry

Dear South Colonie families,

With great sadness, I must share the heartbreaking news that a Kindergarten student at Forest Park, Alina Sharifee, has passed away.

Alina was a cherished member of the Forest Park school community, known for her kindness, intelligence and bright spirit. Her presence brightened the room and she will be deeply missed by her friends, teachers, and everyone who knew her.

The loss of a student can be a difficult and challenging situation that can generate a high level of anxiety and distress in students. During this time, as the school community processes this news and copes with grief, please know that support services are available to any students and staff who need them. If you would like to speak with someone, please call 518-213-8504 and leave a message. Someone from our Support Services Team will call you back as soon as possible.

I encourage parents and guardians to talk with their children about this sad news. Discussing thoughts and feelings about this situation is important in helping your child work through his or her grief.

Our condolences and thoughts go out to the Sharifee family and all of Alina’s friends and classmates.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Perry
Superintendent of Schools
