Virtual Academy pilots new instructional schedule between Thanksgiving and holiday recess

The South Colonie Virtual Academy will pilot a new instructional schedule for students grades K-4 beginning Monday, Nov. 30.

The schedule will be piloted between Thanksgiving and the holiday recess.  The following changes will be implemented during that time frame to allow for teachers to plan and coordinate instruction to provide enhanced experiences for our Virtual Academy students.

    • On day three, the morning classes will participate in asynchronous activities.
    • On day six, the afternoon classes will participate in asynchronous activities.

“This process will allow additional prep time for our teachers and staff while providing an enhanced experience for our students,” said Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Timothy Backus. “Students will be provided with activities to explore and complete on their own during their scheduled block of time and teachers will use that time to prep for planned lessons with our students.”

The district will be evaluating the new schedule and will make an announcement by January 1 if they plan to continue the schedule after the new year. More information will be shared with our Virtual Academy families in the coming weeks.
