Transition Information for Fourth Grade Families

Dear Families of Fourth Graders,

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the Lisha Kill Middle School community! Thank you for your efforts in helping your child begin to navigate the important transition from elementary school to middle school. You may recall being a middle school student yourself, and what a challenge it can certainly be at times! Rest assured, we will be there for you and your child every step of the way and our team is fully prepared to support your child and ensure they have a happy and successful year in fifth grade.

As part of your child’s upcoming fifth-grade experience, we are planning a variety of informational activities to support your child and to ensure a successful transition.  Some of these events will be conducted virtually, while others may be in-person.  Please take a moment to review some of the transition activities planned for you and your child below:

Transition Events Schedule:

Transition to Fifth Grade Website:

For your reference, we have created a “Transition to Fifth Grade” family web-page that contains important information regarding transition activities for students and families during the spring and summer before Fifth Grade. There will also be fun activities and games announced here with prizes! Stay tuned!

Grade 5 Teacher Presentations to Grade 4 Students – June 2 and 3

On June 2 and 3, your child had the opportunity to meet some of our fifth grade teachers and/or participate in a presentation about life in the middle school. Your child learned about some of the similarities and differences between fourth and fifth grade, as well as what to expect and how to best prepare for a successful fifth grade year. Your child also had the opportunity to see pictures of the fifth grade teachers, special area teachers, and principals, as well as take a virtual tour of the Lisha Kill Middle School building. The slide show is available to view by clicking here

Grade 5 Locker Orientation at Lisha Kill Middle School – August 25

In addition, we will be holding Grade 5 Locker Orientation on Wednesday, August 25. Save the date! Students and families will have the opportunity to walk through the fifth grade wing and familiarize themselves with the school prior to the first day of classes.  An opportunity for locker “combination practice” will be available, as well as an opportunity to bring in school supplies to drop off in lockers.  We will provide a staggered schedule to allow for lower numbers of students and families in the building at one time and will use the following time frames:

  • 4:30-5:00  Families with students last names A-G
  • 5:00-5:30  Families with students last names H-P
  • 5:30-6:00  Families with students last names Q-Z

Please save the dates for these events, and contact the Lisha Kill Middle School main office at 518-456-2306 ext 2000 if you have additional questions. Thank you!

We look forward to meeting you and seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Lindsay Tresansky – Principal
