South Colonie Food Services launches meal planning tool for elementary families

The South Colonie Central School District today announced a new tool available for elementary families to select meal choices from home for their child(ren) for the upcoming school week.

Parents will be able to view the menu of breakfast and lunch items and will be asked to select the meal options for their child(ren) for each day of the upcoming school week.

“Parents will receive an email in their inbox weekly,” said Food Services Director Annette Chamberlain.  “Parents will be asked to fill out the information for each child if they plan on receiving breakfast or lunch at school.  The tool will not only help families plan in advance but will also support the Food Services Department as we plan staffing and meal preparation for the upcoming week.”

Meal planning tool

Parents/guardians are asked to complete the meal planning tool for the following week by Thursdays at 3 p.m. After completing the form, parents will receive a confirmation email.

Early this month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) extended the summer meal program allowing South Colonie Central School District to offer free meals to all enrolled students and children under the age of 18 until December 31, 2020.

Students who are attending school in-person will not have to pay for breakfast or lunch until December 31, 2020 or until federal funds are exhausted.
