School meals are FREE for the 2021-22 school year

The South Colonie Food Services Department is pleased to announce that all meals are FREE to every enrolled student regardless of income. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is covering the cost of school meals during the 2021-22 school year.

What does this mean for your household?

    • All enrolled students will be eligible to receive ONE complete
breakfast meal (includes milk) and ONE complete lunch meal (includes milk) per day at no cost.
    • If your child wants to purchase a second entrée, snack, juice, milk or other a la carte items, they will need money on their cafeteria accounts. Please note that milk is not free if purchased as a single item. Milk is $0.70.

Free and Reduced School Lunch Application

Do you need to complete and submit a Free and Reduced School Lunch application? If your family is eligible for the 2021-22 school year, here are the additional benefits of completing the application, even though the federal government is allowing free breakfast and lunch for all students of all districts for this school year:

    • Students who request fee waivers for things like AP exams or college applications will not qualify for the fee waiver if they do not have a current application on file.
    • Some sports programs will waive the fee for students who qualify for free or reduced meals
Spectrum offers discounts to those families that qualify
    • A current application will allow students to be temporarily eligible for the first 30 operational days of the next school year 2022-23. This will buy families time to put in a new application for next year once the reapplication process begins over the summer.

Fill out the application now.
