The South Colonie Central School District reopening plan is now available to and will be updated throughout the school year, as necessary, to respond to local circumstances.
Please note that while this plan is required to be submitted to the state, a final determination on school opening in New York will be made by the Governor in the first week of August. Additionally, items in this plan are subject to change following the release of new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), New York State Education Department (NYSED), or other determinations that may be made by the Governor.
The South Colonie Central School District is committed to establishing and maintaining regular channels of communication regarding the reopening plan and process. Please see the frequently asked questions page addressing commonly asked questions from our families.
New routines, public health and school procedures and practices will all be part of returning to school this year. View a collection of resources that provide information on what to expect when returning back to school and how to prepare students for the transition.
An important part of our efforts to promote the health and safety of everyone in our community as we reopen schools is the detection of an individual displaying symptoms of COVID-19 as well as the potential for exposure to COVID-19. As part of this, we have established a process for daily health screenings, including temperature checks, for all students, staff members and school visitors. This is a required element of school reopening plans in our state.
The South Colonie Central School District will provide free breakfast and lunch to anyone in the district, age 18 and under, through June 30, 2021. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is covering all costs.
As the nation continues to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, emergency childcare services are still available for families. Visit the childcare resources page for more information.
We recognize that some students and staff suffer from chronic medical conditions such as seasonal allergies, migraines, and other medical conditions that may mimic symptoms of COVID-19.
In order to avoid potential dismissals and frequent visits to the doctors for COVID testing, under the guidance from Albany County Department of Health the District Medical Director Dr. Warren Silverman has developed a Chronic Medical Condition Documentation form to be completed by a physician. (*Please note all orders must be certified by an M.D. or D.O.)
