Reopening planning and information

Given that information related to the COVID-19 pandemic is a fluid situation, we will use this web page to share updates with families as we plan for the reopening of our schools.

Updates will also be shared through Blackboard to students/parents and through SNN (School News Notifier) to community members who have opted in to receive district alerts.

Reopening Task Force

The South Colonie Safe Schools Committee and Reopening Task Force comprised of many stakeholders are continuing to meet on a regular basis to develop a plan for the potential re-opening of schools in September.  While the governor has indicated that a decision about reopening in the fall will be made in the future, he has tasked school districts to formulate plans for reopening that would outline expectations for social distancing as well as procedures to promote health and safety.  South Colonie task force has already begun the framework for a reopening plan. After the plan is fully developed, it will be submitted and approved by the state Information, training, and support will be shared with families prior to the reopening of schools.

Summer School

Extended Year Program (ESY)

South Colonie Central School District will be offering a hybrid program this summer for students that qualify for our Extended School Year (ESY) summer program.

“The majority of students will be attending the program in person, but we also have students who will continue to receive academic instruction and/or related services virtually,” said Jill Penn, summer school principal. By offering the hybrid program, the district can continue to meet the needs of all students who qualify for the 12-month program during the summer but at the comfort level of each family.”

The ESY program is set to start on Monday, July 6, and will run until Friday, Aug. 14.

South Colonie Literacy Academy

Literacy Academy will be canceled for this year. In efforts to continue to support summer literacy, we will be providing access to books for students through contactless curbside pick-up during our library summer hours.
