In the Fall of 2022, voters in the South Colonie Central School District approved two capital project propositions that together will result in $120 million in improvements across the district.
Since voter approval, Board of Education members and district leadership have been working collaboratively to engage stakeholders on the first stage designs. The design work for Stage I of the project has been submitted to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) for approval with construction plans set to begin on South Colonie campuses as early as Spring 2024.
“We are excited to share that during our Board meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 17, our architects provided a comprehensive update, including a draft milestone timeline for Next Generation Colonie Stage I,” said Dr. David Perry, superintendent of schools. “This significant step forward is a testament to our commitment to improving our facilities for the benefit of our students and the entire community.”
In addition to breaking ground on a slew of athletic upgrades including a new synthetic turf and sports complex, Stage I of Next Generation Colonie also includes classroom renovations at Colonie Central High School and Shaker Road Elementary. This stage also involves revitalization of the auditorium at Lisha Kill Middle School and other notable improvements, including the redesign of the Shaker Road Bus Loop and a new front facade at Lisha Kill Middle School.
