South Colonie Central School District is proud to participate once again in National School Counseling Week held Feb. 5-9, 2024. In honor of this week of recognition, South Colonie would like to highlight the invaluable role school counselors play in shaping the academic, social and career success of our students. Sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), this week serves to spotlight the significant contributions of school counselors across the nation and the transformative impact they have on students.

“Our school counselors are a vital part of the South Colonie educational system,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perry “They help students focus on academic, social and career development so that they can achieve their goals and become successful members of society. It is important that we recognize the role school counselors play in encouraging increased academic, personal, social and career achievement for all students. Please join me in recognizing and thanking our school counselors for their work.”

Dr. Perry’s proclamation emphasizes the multifaceted roles of South Colonie counselors, drawing attention to their efforts to help students explore their strengths, interests and talents. Through collaborative partnerships with parents and educators, counselors address the diverse needs of students, promoting academic achievement, social-emotional well-being, as well as career readiness. Our certified and experienced counselors have dedicated themselves to supporting the development of each and every student, encouraging them to take charge of the outcome of their lives.

“School counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students’ academic concerns, career options and social/emotional skills,” said Jill Cook, ASCA executive director. “School counseling programs help to increase student achievement and provide a much-needed resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. School counselors are integral to student success.”
