Ms. Sebert’s 8th grade class works with scientists in Antarctica

Over the past several weeks, students in Ms. Sebert’s 8th grade class have been working with scientists, Dr. Matt Oliver from the University of Delaware and Dr. Josh Kohut from Rutgers University, in studying the polar regions. By working through lab activities and creating their own demonstrations, students were able to model what occurs in the biological hotspot near Palmer Station, Antarctica.

Students in Ms. Sebert’s 8th grade class recorded measurements, analyzed data, and then held a video conference with field data scientists who are currently collecting in Antarctica.

The class recorded their measurements, analyzed their data, and then held a video conference with the scientists to compare their findings with the field data scientists that are currently collecting in Antarctica. The class impressed the scientists with their analysis and they are looking forward to meeting up later this school year once the scientists return to the U.S.
