Middle School Compete at First Lego League Robotics Event

Teams from Lisha Kill and Sand Creek middle schools participated for the first time in the Hudson Valley First Lego League Robotics Regional Competition. The event was held last Saturday at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Lisha Kill finished third overall and will be advancing to the state competition in February at NYSUT in Latham. This is a tremendous accomplishment for any team, let alone a team competing for the first time.

Although Sand Creek did not qualify for states, Sand Creek’s robot had the second highest score of any robot in the ‘Robot Game’ portion of the competition. Overall team scores are comprised of three different factors: the Robot Game, the Project and the Core Values.

Lisha Kill team members were 7th Grade: Rizwan Mann; 6th Grade: Ayden Cobertt, Charlie Hug, Keira McFeeley, Marissa Osei, Vaughn Pollack, Akshayraj Rathore and Ryan Staley; and 5th Grade: Amelia Hinckley and Emma Moran. Courtney Hynes was the Lisha Kill coach.

Sand Creek team members were 8th Grade: Alex Pause; 7th Grade: Caeley Arden and Logan Bachman; 6th Grade: Christian Haggerty, Joshua Dover and Chandu Atmakuri, and 5th Grade: Stephan Pham, David Pham and Div Pramanick. Jim Brown was the Sand Creek coach and Kathleen Arden the assistant coach.

Congratulations to both teams, and thank you to all of the team members, the parents and the volunteers from the Colonie Central High School First Robotics Team.
