In a showdown against rival Shaker, the Colonie girls basketball team took home the win 66-49 to take the Class AAA Section 2 championship title.

Freshman guard Aliyah Pearson showcased her skills on the court, leading the way with 18 points and the Section 2 Class AAA tournament MVP award. Joining her in the spotlight, Freshman Ella Trimarchi contributed 20 points and was named to the all-tournament team.  The victory is the 7th Section 2 Championship in the Girls Basketball program’s history and the 3rd title under Coach DiBiase.

“This team has shown so much resilience throughout the season,”  said Coach DiBiase.  “They were hungry for a Section 2 championship and worked extremely hard to accomplish that goal.  I am so proud of how they have represented not only the program, but the school and the  community with class.  GO RAIDERS!!!”

With this victory, Colonie advances to the regional final and is set to face Liverpool. The game is set to take place on Saturday, March 9, at Onondaga Community College at noon. The winner of the game will move on to the state tournament-finals the following weekend.

Colonie High School’s Boys and Girls Indoor Track teams demonstrated their skill and determination at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Championships held at Ocean Breeze on March 2, earning commendable results in various events.

Aidan Norris, a standout athlete representing Colonie High School, delivered a stellar performance in the 600m event, finishing 3rd in the state and 6th in the Federations. Clocking in with a remarkable time of 1:21.73, a personal best for him. 

The Boys 4x800m relay team continued Colonie High School’s success with a strong performance, securing 3rd place in both the state and Federations. The relay team, composed of Tyler Sinkins, Sean Obermayer, Owen Conley and Aidan Norris, displayed exceptional teamwork and skill as they achieved an impressive 11-second personal record, finishing with a time of 7:57.53. Alternates Alex Rennick and Shane LaFountain provided valuable support to the team’s success.

Similarly, the Girls 4x400m relay team demonstrated their abilities securing 3rd place in both the state and Federations. Composed of Gabby Villa, Qimora Johnson, Lilly Palmer, and Mariah Durenay, the relay team showcased their speed and coordination on the track. Alternates Liliana Burbige, Gianna Semeraro, and Caitlyn Norris contributed to the team’s success, highlighting the depth of talent within the Colonie High School track program.

Overall, the Colonie High School Indoor Track teams’ remarkable achievements at the NYSPHSAA Championships underscored their dedication, hard work, and exceptional talent, bringing pride and recognition to the school community.

Junior Izzy Trimarchi and Freshman Nicole Fitzgerald competed in the State Championships on Saturday, March 2, representing Shaker-Colonie gymnastics and Section 2.  Izzy Trimarchi also won the Section 2 Championship Beam title.

Izzy Trimarchi, in particular, showcased her exceptional abilities by securing the Section 2 Championship Beam title, demonstrating grace and precision on the balance beam. Her impressive performance underscored her commitment to the sport and solidified her position as an athlete in the gymnastics community.

Alongside Trimarchi, freshman Nicole Fitzgerald also competed admirably at the State Championships, contributing to the strong showing of the Shaker-Colonie gymnastics team. Their participation in the championships not only represented their individual talent but also showcased the collective strength of the Section 2 gymnastics program.


Vincent Mastrianni secures 4th place at NYSPHSAA wrestling championships

Vincent Mastrianni, representing Colonie, delivered a standout performance at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Wrestling Championships, earning a well-deserved 4th place finish in his weight class (116 pound division).

Mastrianni’s journey to the state wrestling tournament began with an impressive victory in the Section 2 Championship 116-pound division, showcasing his skill and determination on the mat. 

Building on this success, Mastrianni continued to excel at the State Championship meet, posting an impressive 4-2 record against tough competition to secure his spot on the podium. His 4th place finish is a testament to Vincent’s hard work, dedication, and talent as a wrestler.

Colonie High School’s wrestling team had a standout performer at this year’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Championships, as sophomore Elissa Alberto earned the opportunity to showcase her skills on a statewide platform. 

Alberto, a talented sophomore wrestler, secured her spot in the prestigious NYS Championships held in Syracuse. Competing against top-tier athletes from across the state, Alberto displayed determination and skill as she took to the mat on Friday, Jan. 26.


Two winter teams achieve Section 2 finalist status

The culmination of the winter sports season brought commendable achievements for two Colonie teams], as they secured their places as Section 2 finalists.

On Saturday, Feb.24, the Cheerleading team showcased their skills at the Section 2 Championship held at Shenendehowa High School. Their remarkable performances earned them the title of Section 2 runners-up.

Similarly, the Boys Basketball team concluded their season on Saturday, March 2, as Section 2 runners-up following an exceptional journey. With an undefeated regular season and an impressive 14-0 record in the Suburban Council, they claimed the #1 seed in sectionals. Their season culminated with a remarkable 22-1 record, highlighting their dominance on the court throughout the season. Seniors Cam Trimarchi and Trey Owens-Cody received special recognition for their outstanding contributions to the team, as they were named to the Section 2 AAA All-Tournament team.
