Only three weeks into the school year, CCHS Senior Hailey Lotz has already accrued a number of musical accomplishments that are worthy of “note.”

Hailey has been accepted to the 2022 NYSSMA All-State Music Festival in December in Rochester, NY.  A clarinetist, Hailey performed a Level 6 NYSSMA adjudication last spring and was awarded a perfect score of 100!  Her performance of Phillipe Gaubert’s Fantasie for Clarinet and Piano earned her a spot in the All-State Symphonic Band.  Hailey will represent South Colonie among other talented high school juniors and seniors from across the state at the famous Kodak Theater at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester.

In July, Hailey participated in the prestigious Boston University Tanglewood Institute as a member of the 2022 Young Artists Wind Ensemble.  Hailey was selected, by musical audition, from an international pool of applicants.  During the four-week experience, Hailey took lessons and participated in masterclasses led by members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and faculty from New England Conservatory, in addition to attending concerts and recitals of these world-class musicians.  For Hailey, highlights included the Wind Ensemble’s performances of Blue Shades by Frank Ticheli and The Divine Comedy by Robert W. Smith.

In August, Hailey performed at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady.  Through the Proctor’s Broadway Camp- Collaborative School of the Arts, Hailey played clarinet in the pit orchestra for the production of Into the Woods.  The production featured talented actors, tech crew, and musicians between the ages of 14 and 19 from around the Capital Region.

Looking toward the future, Hailey hopes to attend college as a double-major in music performance and physics.  She is interested in a career in medicine or public health policy.

It is with tremendous pride that the South Colonie School District congratulates Hailey on all of her accomplishments thus far and wishes her continued success in her musical pursuits.
