Colonie Central High School senior, Ryan Staley, has achieved the impressive status of being named a Finalist in the 2024 National Merit® Scholarship Program. The announcement was made earlier this week by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, based in Evanston, IL. This prestigious recognition is part of a nationwide competition that offers nearly $28 million in scholarships in the upcoming year.

After being named a semifinalist in the fall, Staley’s academic record was thoroughly reviewed and evaluated based on information about Colonie Central High School’s curriculum and grading system, national test scores, scholarship recommendations, extracurricular activities and leadership positions. This advancement from a semifinalist places Staley  in a group representing less than 1% of U.S. high school graduating seniors.

Senior Class Principal Brian Scalzo commended Staley, stating, “To be recognized as a National Merit Finalist is a huge honor for students because it represents years of hard work and dedication to learning. Congratulations to Ryan on this honor. We are proud of his accomplishment and commitment to his future.”

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition among high school students for recognition and college scholarships that began in 1955. The program is conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corp., a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance.

The final roster of 2024 National Merit Scholarship winners will be unveiled nationwide beginning in April. For more information about this achievement, please visit
