South Colonie is thrilled to announce the commencement of the “Pay Less for the Dress” campaign, a collaborative effort with the popular local radio station, 99.5 The River. This month-long collection event, running until Feb. 8, is dedicated to gathering donations of gently used or new prom dresses, with the intent of later selling them to local teens for a more affordable price. The culminating moment of this collection will be marked by a live broadcast hosted by 99.5 The River at Colonie High the morning of Feb. 8; giving students the opportunity to come together and contribute to a cause that goes far beyond fashion.

The dresses collected during this campaign will be made available for purchase on Friday, March 8, at Proctors Key Hall. Not only does this event offer an opportunity for individuals to find affordable and stylish prom attire, but it also contributes to two essential causes. All of the gently used dresses will be sold for $9.95 + tax, and all of the proceeds from dresses and entry tickets will benefit The Proctor’s Scholarship Fund, as well as The Center for Disability Services.

As we begin this exciting initiative, we encourage everyone who is willing to part with their old prom dresses, to join us in creating a magical prom experience for teens in our area on a budget. Stay tuned for more details, including information on ticket sales for the purchasing event to be hosted at Proctors. Together, let’s make prom dreams come true and support meaningful causes that make a lasting difference.
