Learning in the Special Needs program at Forest Park Elementary School this summer included spending time reading, writing, and engaging in various activities about the beach/ocean. Students in Lisa Prinzo's class were able to make their own edible “Oceans in a Cup”. They used vanilla wafers as their ocean floor, applesauce with food coloring for the water, Swedish fish, and whipped cream for the waves. They also designed beach/ocean themed T-shirts to wear on all of their outings, and their own beaches (on a plate) using salt dough made from flour, salt, and water. They made beach towels, which they included on their beaches, along with beach balls, palm trees, an umbrella, and some shells.
