The second graders created cityscapes that depict the three parts of a picture: foreground, middle ground and background. The students drew elements from urban environments to enhance their cities and learned about complementary colors - colors that are directly across from each other on the color wheel. The second graders learned that when placed next to one another within an artwork, complementary colors enhance each other and make each other look brighter. The students used complementary color pairings to paint their buildings, roads and backgrounds resulting in very vibrant and colorful cityscapes.
