June 2010
As a culmination to a service-learning week project, the students in Erin Govel and Lindsay Steenrod's Universal Pre-K classes hosted a lemonade stand. The students began by reading the book, Alex and the Amazing Lemonade Stand, and learned how little Alexandra Scott, after being diagnosed with cancer, decided to raise money to help find a cure for childhood cancers. The UPK students made signs to advertise their sale and invited the entire school to help with this fundraiser. It was a great learning project, and in the end, the UPK students raised nearly $600. What a way to turn lemons into lemonade! If you would like to hold your own lemonade stand to support the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, click here for more information.
