ENL Changes For New School Year

Parents/Guardians of English Language Learners,

We hope this letter finds your family well and enjoying the spring season.  Hopefully you were able to attend the Multi-Cultural Festival at Sand Creek Middle School back in March.  The event was a wonderful display of the diverse community that reflects South Colonie.  We are so grateful to the planning, organizing and efforts by our faculty leaders, students and parents to make such an evening possible.   We anticipate that the event will continue to grow and involve even more members of our community each year.

It is with the themes of community and growth in mind that we are pleased to inform you that in the fall of 2018 the South Colonie School District will expand our  ENL elementary program to the western half of the district.  Saddlewood Elementary School will house English Language Learners in grades kindergarten through third grade (K-3) during the 2018-19 school year.  Students who live in the Saddlewood and Veeder boundaries will be eligible to attend this program, providing them with the essential supports to meet with success in  a closer proximity to their homes.  One exception will be our current third graders, who will complete their fourth and final elementary year at Shaker Road Elementary.

We are grateful to our Board of Education in recognizing the need to assist our English Language Learners and their families in this capacity. It is our belief that this expansion will help strengthen the academic, social and community supports for your child.

Please feel welcome to call or email me with any questions you may have with regards to this upcoming transition.   We will continue to communicate to you all relative and logistical information moving forward.
