Penny Harvest Collection On Its Way To Be Counted
The pennies from Veeder’s Elementary School's Penny Harvest 2011 are in the money bags and on their way to be counted! Once the final amount is tallied, students on the Penny Harvest/Kindness Committee will choose a variety of charitable causes to receive a portion of the monies collected.
Thanks to Veeder’s students, staff, families, and community members, the harvest this year is the biggest ever! Check out the photo of the filled bags. Can you guess how many pennies are in those bags?
Collecting pennies isn’t the only thing this committee of over 70 students has been working on. This fall, students visited an assisted living facility to sing patriotic songs and make crafts on Veterans’ Day; they filled bags to help the Donna M. Crandall Foundation prepare for its annual fundraiser; they made ornaments for families in Schoharie who lost theirs in the floods of hurricane Irene; and they made holiday crafts with residents of an assisted living facility and sang holiday songs.
The committee isn’t done with their kindness projects, either. Students scheduled to visit more assisted living communities and want to start helping support others in need by collecting pajamas and party bag supplies for children whose families can’t afford them.
Check back to the Veeder webpage as we post the final amount of pennies collected as soon as we hear from the company that counts them. Meanwhile, start saving your pennies for next year!
