Hosts Kindergarten Literacy Night For Parents
Posted October 26, 2011
Veeder Elementary School Kindergarten parents came to school in October to learn all about the exciting activities that take place during their child’s day.
The Veeder Kindergarten teachers hosted a Literacy Night as a way to share the importance of building reading and writing skills for lifelong learning and success. The parents rotated through five small group sessions and learned helpful tips that could be used at home to help their children improve.
Each of the five sessions focused on a key area of Language Arts instruction. Two sessions focused on reading strategies for youngsters and how to do the “book in the bag." Kindergarten writing and word practice were the focus of two other groups. The fifth session focused on what to do before and after reading aloud with your child.
The teachers were thrilled with the way the evening came together. The parents also responded positively. There were about 20 parents that attended. There will be a second Literacy Night in January which will focus on word work. Kindergarten children will attend with their parents.
