Retiring Bus Driver, Kniskern, Wins AAA Exceptional Driver Award
Congratulations to South Colonie bus driver Myron Kniskern, who was honored by the Hudson Valley chapter of AAA in May with an Exception Driver Award for his superior dedication to the district during his 22-year career.
Kniskern was nominated for the AAA award by the South Colonie Transportation Department for his exceptional accident and safety record, attendance and job performance, and interaction skills with students and staff.
Kniskern began driving for South Colonie in the fall of 1989 and will retire in June.
"In that time, Kniskern has transported several hundred students safely to school and back home again," said Transportation Director Peter Tunny. "He has done so consistently throughout the years. Although he commutes in from Richmondville in Schoharie County each morning, he is always one of the first bus drivers to arrive. In fact, on several occasions he would learn of a delay or closing after he arrived here."
"Kniskern treats his students with
respect," Tunny added. "He establishes the boundaries early and
remains consistent throughout the school year. He treats all of
his students as his own. That in a nutshell is how he has won
the love and support of his students and their parents over the
years.
For these reasons I wish I could clone Myron and keep him here
for a few more years."
