Polar Express Rolls Into Shaker Road

Shaker Road Elementary School held its first Polar Express "surprise" assembly the day before the holiday break, complete with a visit from Santa Claus. The staff each read a part of the story, the kids came dressed in pajamas and had their tickets punched by a conductor. full story

The 30 days of Brovember passed very quickly. With each passing day, the men at Shaker Road Elementary School grew more bristly. Along the way, students and staff and folks from the school community made donations (totaling $337.85) in the form of "votes" for the beard(s) they liked best. full story

Shaker Road Enters Video in Healthy Change Contest

Shaker Road Elementary School submitted a video this fall to compete in the Healthy Changes Everything Video Contest sponsored by Blue Shield of Northeastern NY. To enter, schools had to create a video between 30 seconds and five minutes that showed staff and students moving around – dancing, playing, running, jumping, or anything that shows them being active. Contest winners will be notified by November 18th, with the first place video receiving $2,500. To see Shaker Road’s entry, click here.

Shaker Road PARP Program Kicks Off

Shaker Road Elementary School's Parents As Reading Partners program kicked off on October 24. This year’s theme is “Be a Smart Cookie! READ!” As students read, they can see their efforts piling up in the form of “cookies’ outside of the library with their names written on them. Shaker Road School Begins Banking

Red-Kap Helps School Playground Renovation Fund Top $700 Mark

Thanks to the ongoing generosity of Red-Kap, Shaker Road Elementary School's good neighbors who run the Shaker Mobil On the Run, the school has gone over the $700 mark in contributions toward further restoration of our landmark Imagination Station playground. Customers at the store share their spare change and Red-Kap matches the totals. full story
